Amira Bakir is a first generation Algerian-American student and a proud alumna of the Elizabeth J. Somers' Women's Leadership Program (Science, Health & Medicine Cohort, 2014-2015). In Spring 2018, she received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Public Health from the George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health. Following graduation, she chose to remain at the Milken Institute to pursue a Master's of Public Health in Community Oriented Primary Care. Her career interests include serving as a global health ambassador, with a particular regional interest in North African health systems and the following public health areas: refugee/migrant health, traditional/indigenous medicine, diabetes prevention and management, program design/evaluation, quality improvement/assurance, and strategic development and capacity building for public hospitals.
