I spent the majority of 2016 in Amman, Jordan, where I lived and studied for the Spring semester though CIEE’s Diplomacy and Policy Studies program. In the program, I took classes on formal and Jordanian dialect Arabic as well as on regional politics and development. During the Spring, I also interned with the Collateral Repair Project, an NGO providing aid and community services to Syrian and Iraqi urban refugees in East Amman. I helped with a variety of programming, ranging from those on gender-based violence, to those on developing leadership skills in women and young girls, to those on providing a supplementary educational program for young kids. I've stayed on in Amman during the summer, and from May onwards, I have been an intern at the UN Women Jordan Country Office, working in both the Response, Recovery, and Resilience and the Women, Peace, and Security departments. I assist UN Women in its support of the Jordanian National Commission for Women’s efforts to develop a National Action Plan on UNSCr 1325 and subsequent resolutions on women, peace, and security. I am also supporting ongoing projects geared towards women and young girls in the three different UN Women Oases in Za’atari Camp in Mafraq, Jordan. During this time I've also had the unique opportunity of traveling in Jordan and throughout the region, having visited Petra, Wadi Rum, and various biblical and historical sites in Jordan, as well as Palestine, Israel, Istanbul, Greece, and Lebanon.

Emma Anderson (IP 2014-2015) wrote us about her recent internship opportunities:

During the Spring of 2016, I interned for the Human Rights Campaign (at the headquarters building in DC) in their executive and board relations department. My main responsibility was preparing for their annual Equality Convention, which is attended by their largest donors and most active volunteers. Keynote speakers at this years convention were Cory Booker and Samantha Power.
Currently (Summer 2016), I am interning for a non profit organization in Pennsylvania called the Himalayan Institute. I work for their team that manages all of their international humanitarian projects, which are in India, Africa, and Mexico. I am concentrating on their project in Cameroon, Africa that focuses on improving community health, building public libraries, and running vocational training/job creation programs.

This summer I am interning at the Israeli Mission to the United Nations in New York City.  I am the Administration and Research Intern, advising my colleagues on African UN peacekeeping missions.
I also held internships during the year.  One with GW Hillel as an engagement intern and one with a non-profit, Headcount, which registers people to vote at concerts and music festivals.

I have recently returned from my year abroad. I spent the fall semester studying at Tel Aviv University learning about the political climate and religious differences in the Middle East while experiencing the culture and people. I then flew to London where I studied at City University and Arcadia University while interning for a UK Member of Parliament helping with social media, press releases, campaigns, constituent concerns, and research. I had the opportunity to work first hand on the EU referendum campaign. During my year abroad I traveled throughout Israel and Europe (the below picture was taken in Italy). After returning to DC I spent the summer interning in Congress for my representative who has been very vocal in the gun conversation.
