Marlee Grant (GEB, 2014-2015) wrote us about her recent study abroad and her plans for the summer:
I just returned from a semester at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. This summer I am interning at the Women's Microfinance Initiative, my interest in which was sparked by information I learned in my courses within GEB. The photo I attached is one of me in Istanbul atop the Galata Tower, with a gorgeous view of the Golden Horn in the background.
Annie Keough (IP, 2013-2014) wrote us about her various internships, past and future:
Since leaving WLP I worked briefly as a Capitol Hill intern with Senator John Thune. I then spent last summer working for the State Department as an intern in the Joint Fraud Investigation Team at the U.S. Embassy in London. This summer I'm working for the Department of Justice. At GW, I am a University Justice in the office of Student Rights and Responsibilities as well as a senior supervisor and coordinator of the GWPD Community Service Aide (CSA) program.
I've interned at the ONE Campaign, an international non-profit, and New Blue Interactive, a digital fundraising firm. In the fall semester, I also had the amazing opportunity to participate in GW's Interfaith Poverty Fellowship and in the spring semester, I worked on an independent study project, which will (hopefully) be published by the end of summer. This summer, I'm the Digital and Print Media Intern at ALTA, and I'll be traveling to Chicago as an Organizing for Action fellow in August.
This summer I have started an internship at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI, where I am working on clinical research at the Center for Integrative Research on Cardiovascular Aging (CIRCA). I am currently exploring the connection between diabetes and sleep apnea as well as the effect of diabetes on mortality in obese patients who have implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
Currently, I am interning at the outpatient psychiatry department of Jacobi Medical Center in New York City. I work under various psychiatrists to maintain medical records, prepare patient encounters, and analyze short-term results of treatment plans.
I am currently a summer intern at the Bergen County Superior Court in my home state New Jersey. I work under the family division with a judge, and help work on different cases. Through this internship, I have learned so much about the field of law.
A month ago I returned from a year long study abroad program at The London School of Economics. At LSE I studied economics, but took cross subject courses in economics with marketing, history, and sustainability. My environmental economics course was so interesting to me that I recently decided to pursue a sustainability minor in my senior year of GW. I currently am focusing on my internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where I do management consulting for their public sector practice. I'm looking forward to completing my senior year at GW while building a new club that focuses on creating a structure for students interested in entrepreneurship or the GW New Venture Competition.
