CNN reporter Athena Jones talked to the Women's Leadership Program at a Thursday night symposium. Athena Jones has been a general assignment reporter with CNN since 2011 is based in CNN’s Washington bureau. She reports on a wide range of general news stories for programs across the network from breaking news to national stories. Jones shared her personal story with the WLP, discussing her education, her experience living and working abroad, her time reporting on the Clinton and Obama campaigns in 2008, and her transition to reporting for CNN. She offered a great deal of advice and insight for students looking to pursue their passions, particularly in the field of journalism.
At the symposium, Jones shared with us a day-in-the-life and gave us insight into the hectic life of a reporter. In particular, Jones discussed reporting on the looming government shutdown and the pressure facing president Obama. This is the clip she discussed reporting.
