IAC GTA and former student Alyssa Abraham was featured in the recent issue of the Elliot School online paper.
Graduate student Alyssa Abraham spent her Summer 2013 break addressing some of [the challenges faced by North Korean immigrants in South Korea] first-hand. With the help of the Elliott School’s Freeman Foundation Scholarship, Alyssa interned for the Well-side Project in Seoul, South Korea. Founded by the Girls’ Friendly Society of Korea, the Well-side Project runs Café Grace, a non-profit coffee shop that employs North Korean refugees in addition to South Korean and international volunteers. Through job training, social interaction, and tutoring, Café Grace aims to integrate North Korean women—who comprise more than 65% of all North Korean refugees—into society.
