Room to Read Fundraiser: In honor of Malala Yousufzai.

The plight of Malala Yousufzai, a fourteen year old Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for advocating for the education of girls, has highlighted that the education of women is an international issue, and one that must be resolved before we can begin to resolve countless other issues.

With the spirit of Elizabeth J. Somers in mind, the following students hosted a fundraiser to benefit Room to Read, a nonprofit organization based in California that supports education programs in Southeast Asia and Africa, in countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, Nepal, and South Africa. Room to Read raises money to build schools and libraries, but also has a fund set up to help give girls scholarships so that they can continue their education, even when their parents are unable to afford to send them to school any longer. Check out their facebook page at facebook.com/RaiseHighMalala.
