My first paper published!

My first paper published

In my internship with the Tribune Papers, I have deepened my knowledge of news writing and reporting while serving my community to provide accurate and factual news. I collaborate with a team of editors, reporters, photographers and advertisers at the Tribune Papers. In the month that I have been an intern, my writing skills have increased dramatically. Writing multiple articles a week has given me the opportunity to refine the storytelling techniques I have learned in my journalism classes.

I have the opportunity to be directly involved in every step of the publication of a newspaper. From fielding leads at the assignment desk, meeting community members while reporting, designing the print layout, to watching how the paper is physically printed, this internship has been an incredible holistic learning experience.

I am also channelling my passion for accessibility in journalism by spearheading the audio recording of articles. I will be reading aloud and recording all published articles in the coming months to benefit visually impaired readers.

I love reporting because of the day-to-day variability. As a reporter, I am constantly connecting with new people and learning about my community. Thank you to WLP for this incredible scholarship, this gift is not only supporting myself but also local journalism.

Journalism in rural and impoverished communities like my own is incredibly important. I am honored to report on critical issues for my community. The skills that I take from this internship will further the journalism education that I have received at GW and align with my involvement in on-campus publications.
