The NGLCC, the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, is a nonprofit organization that certifies and promotes LGBT-owned businesses. Throughout the United States, there are comparable chambers working to give all minority groups seats at the table of our economy.

At the NGLCC in Washington D.C., I worked with a team of social-justice-oriented professionals. As an intern, I of course performed tasks to keep the office running-- organizing supply closets, taking inventory, researching meeting spaces and office decor, and rearranging online files. In October, I volunteered at the Trans Visibility March Reception that our office hosted. Additionally, I had the honor of helping orchestrate the 2019 National Dinner, the NGLCC’s premiere annual fundraising event. This event took place in the National Building Museum. Hundreds of LGBT business owners, corporate diversity leaders, elected officials and representatives from NGLCC Global attended the black tie gala. The night included an awards ceremony, a live auction, and several moving speeches on the state of LGBT rights internationally.

Working at the NGLCC was an overwhelmingly positive experience. I learned about the administrative side of nonprofit work, and made friends with many of my coworkers. It was a welcoming environment, my schedule was flexible, and my work was engaging. I’ve attached photos from the National Dinner.
