WOLA

My name is Maria Alejandra Silva Ortega and I recently graduated from GW with a major in International Affairs and a concentration in Conflict Resolution. I received the Humphries Fellowship in Spring 2018 to support my internship at the Washington Office on Latin America, an organization that advocates for the respect of human rights in the Americas. I worked on the Colombia program, where I supported the team with research, writing, and event coordination. WOLA’s Sally Yudelman internship program gave me the opportunity to get to know the amazing people in our office and in DC through weekly brown bag lunches. My favorite part of the internship was when we hosted a delegation of human rights defenders from Colombia, and my boss gave me the opportunity to attend meetings with them in congress, at the Department of State, the OAS, and the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Without the Humphries Fellowship, I would not have been able to fully participate in this amazing internship!
