Assistant Professor in the University Writing Program

Steve Salchak is an Assistant Professor of Writing in The Women’s Leadership Program at George Washington University in Washington DC.  Serving on both the Women’s Leadership and Writing Program faculty, Dr. Salchak teaches courses on propaganda theory, science as a form of argumentation, bullshit, and academic writing. In these courses Professor Salchak asks how we are and how we should be persuaded, linking these questions to issues of effective and ethical leadership, especially in the contexts of democratic theory and citizenship, economic theory and business leadership, and STEM education and science leadership.

His research focuses on building a multi-national network of partners for better understanding writing transfer and how to best utilize the first-year as both a transition from high school to college and as a foundation for long-term growth as a writer.  Though his teaching and research he is working with partners in the United States, Ireland, Bangladesh, and South Africa to support improved learning and teaching and to help build the capacity of local partners to incorporate writing instruction into their curricula.
